Dear URNCST Journal Authors,

I am writing to share a recently published guide that may be of interest to our community:

A Structured Framework for Effective and Responsible Generative Artificial Intelligence Chatbot Prompt Engineering Throughout the Scientific Process: A Comprehensive Guide for the Health and Medical Researcher https://doi.org/10.3389/frai.2026.1745928

While some of you made your first submission as an undergraduate student to the URNCST Journal just a few days ago, others made your first submission years ago and have since gone on to establish brilliant and successful scientific careers. Regardless of where you are at in your journey, it’s become clear to me over the last few years that the use of generative AI in scholarly research is here to stay, and students and established researchers alike have all called for more training and guidance on how to use these tools effectively and responsibly. As such, this guide was developed in response to this consistent need identified across multiple international studies.

The guide outlines how these tools can be used across different stages of the research process (e.g., idea generation, literature exploration, manuscript drafting), while emphasizing the importance of critical thinking, transparency, and verification of outputs.

Given URNCST’s focus on supporting undergraduate researchers, this resource may be particularly useful for:

--informing your own use of AI tools in research and writing

--supporting training and mentorship of student researchers

--fostering responsible and transparent research practices

I invite you to explore the guide and consider how it may be useful in your work, and share it widely within your own networks if it is of value to you.

Yours sincerely,

Dr. Jeremy Y. Ng, MSc, PhD
